The Bamboo Roofing Project

The factory for the industry we are now proposing will be built near Bamdhi.  The other side of the river from Bamdi is Pame.  Bamdi is often cut off from road access during the monsoon so the factory will have to be built near the town of Pame.  Pame is about a two hour drive from Pokhara.

 The project plan is designed to create jobs for 200 women weaving split bamboo mats.  This design means that we will need to have 200 women working full time weaving mats to meet the demands of the factory.  In reality we won't find two hundred women who can devote full time away from their children and other family duties.  Nor is there any need to disrupt the system in this way.  In reality five hundred to a thousand women will be using their spare time to weave mats which we will then buy at a set standard price.

 as well as numerous agricultural jobs growing and harvesting bamboo.   The industries we intend to compete against are the metal sheet roofing and plywood that are primarily imports from India.
